As a member of Professor Andrea Kaston Tange’s class, ENGL 294-05:  “Down The Rabbit Hole,” I thought I would share my experience with the “Flash Museum” exhibit opening!

My fellow classmates and I were tasked with creating a museum exhibit on a niche 19th-century British topic. First, we drew slips from a hat with our assigned topic, and then we had the rest of the class period to do as much research as possible on that topic. Some of the topics included “limelight,” a lighting technology using quicklime, “crape,” a deadly mourning fabric, “mummy brown,” a pigment made of ground mummies, “wrought iron,” “jacquard,” “stage coach,” “meerschaum,” “telegraph,” “the power loom,” “Berlin wool work,” and “mudlarking.” Then, hearing of our museum project, the ever-benevolent master-planner, Jan Beebe, set up a lovely gallery opening on Wednesday, March 8th, complete with cheese, crackers, and non-alcoholic beverages in fancy glasses. If you’re interested in seeing these exhibits, they’ll be up for a few more weeks! Just go to Old Main 2, turn right after the stairwell, and you’ll see the exhibits pinned to the wall!
